SLUDGE RISK MAY RISE AS BUNKER STREAM LIGHTENS

Lighter fuel oil blends are believed to be entering Singapore’s bunker stream. The risk with such blends is they may be derived from blending with waxy diesel oil, the use of which can result in excessive sludge, one expert suggests. Traders are bringing in compliant, lighter fuel oil blends to Singapore — the world’s top marine fuel hub.

PORT OF KARACHI BANS OPEN-LOOP SCRUBBERS

Weeks into the 2020 sulphur cap taking effect, the Pakistani government has joined a string of other global destinations and banned open-loop scrubbers at the country’s biggest box port. Ships will have to use closed loop scrubbers or complaint fuel when at the port.

MEKE MARINE AWARDED BAKU–TBILISI–CEYHAN PIPELINE RESPONSE CONTRACT

Meke Marine, Euroshore member based in Istanbul, Turkey, is pleased to announce that BTC has awarded MEKE for the Provision of Tier 2 Oil Spill Response in Turkey.
The Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline is a 1,768 kilometre (1,099 mi) long crude oil pipeline from the Azeri–Chirag–Gunashli oil field in the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. It connects Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan and Ceyhan, a port on the south-eastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey, via Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. It is the second-longest oil pipeline in the former Soviet Union, after the Druzhba pipeline.
