Happy 2016 to you, dear reader. We hope your new year will be full of joyful learning, interesting opportunities and intense pleasure in everything you will undertake.
We, at Euroshore, believe 2016 will be a busy year for shipping and the environment.
First of all, the Ballast Water Management Convention will enter into force.
Second, the Commission will prepare her long awaited proposal to review the Directive 2000/59/EC on port reception facilities for ship-generated waste and cargo residues.
(And during this year or beginning 2017 the Commission will prepare her long awaited proposal for revising the Directive 2000/59/EC on port reception facilities for ship generated waste and cargo residues.)
And further, there are several implementation challenges to be tackled. So is waste, segregated on board according to international rules and standards, not always collected separately on land. Also the increased use of exhaust gas cleaning systems is an issue. And there are still insufficient incentives to deliver the waste to Port Reception Facilities. Finally, we would welcome a more harmonized and a more effective enforcement of rules and standards.
