European sustainable shipping Forum (ESSF) mandate extended

The fourth plenary meeting of the European Sustainable Shipping Forum (ESSF) was held at the Committee of the Regions in Brussels on June 16. At this meeting the mandate of the ESSF, which normally would end in December 2015 got extended for another two and a half years.


Council agrees new approach on technical requirements for Inland waterway vessels

On June 11, 2015 the Council agreed that in the future technical standards will be developed in the European Committee for drawing up Standards in Inland Navigation (CESNI). The draft directive is a measure aimed at making better use of Europe’s rivers and canals and at getting more freight onto them (NAIADES II package).

Member profile: MTD Antwerp

A number of reception facilities offer a vapour recovery service, using different techniques. MTD, located in the port of Antwerp, operates a vapour recovery unit in which the vapours are absorbed on active carbon. Installations such as ESSO and Total are burning the gasoline vapours of barges together with other gases produced in their installations.
