The 2006 concession of Nigeria’s seaports has triggered economic growth of the country. More and more private investors are venturing into the country’s maritime sector, fostering a higher turnout of goods and services in and around the Nigerian Port system. With privately owned companies involved in the daily running of the ports, cargo handling become more and more efficient, resulting in a staggering increase in cargo through-put. Although the country still faces poverty, overpopulation and serious environmental challenges, Nigeria’s ports are booming.
